Keeping Your Balance

    Without proper balance we all fall down. Balance is that internal mechanism that allows us to defy gravity as we stand, walk, run, and sit. We all take balance for granted because we’ve been practicing it for decades. Occasionally, a toddler reminds of that brief time when balance was a challenge to achieve. And further reminds us that if we don’t maintain balance we are destined to fall down gracelessly.

    As you begin your career – striving to be a Great DBA – it is easy to become overwhelmed. Your position is tentative, at best, and it seems like everyone around you knows more than you. The real difference is experience and a proven track record. How do you gain experience and build a proven track record? Work hard, study hard, attend seminars, incessantly read articles and white papers, experiment, and volunteer for high-visibility projects.
