Data Management Workshops at the ISUG-TECH 2014 Conference

By: Mike Harrold on Feb 19, 2014

This is part of a series of articles in which we'll be sharing information about the content at the upcoming ISUG-TECH Conference.

In addition to PowerBuilder and PowerDesigner workshops already highlighted, the ISUG-TECH Conference will include several workshops for SAP ASE, SAP IQ and SAP Replication Server.  All of these workshops are great topics for great products, covering both beginners and seasons experts.

Let's start with SAP ASE.  There will be three pre-conference workshops: two 1/2 day sessions on Analyzing sp_sysmon and Installation and Configuration and a full day session covering a Quick Start for Oracle and SQL Server DBAs. The Quick Start workshop is also a great opportunity for former ASE DBAs who haven't worked with recent versions to get a crash-course in everything they've missed!  These sessions are given by Joe Woodhouse, Chris Baker and Bob Barker respectively, and are all well worth the additional cost to attend. Joe has even promised a complete analysis of sysmon reports brought to the session (one per attendee!).

After the dust has settled and the main conference is over, there will be a post-conference session on Friday Troubleshooting ASE Performance Problems with MDA Tables, presented by Chris Brown. This session covers the other way (not sp_sysmon) to monitor the performance of your ASE database. Some of you will want to – and should – attend both sessions.  Which is why they are not on at the same time of course!

SAP IQ will be covered in a pre-conference 1/2 day session on Installation, Configuration and DBA Management presented by Chris Baker.  As with the equivalent SAP ASE workshop, this will cover the basic tasks a DBA needs to know to get an IQ instance up and running.  Perhaps surprising to many people, neither SAP ASE nor SAP IQ require a lot of work to get them up and running, and Chris will take you through all the steps necessary.

Last but by no means least, we come to SAP Replication Server (SRS).  SRS admins are covered with a full day pre-conference session on SAP Replication Server Internals and Performance and Tuning which will be taught by Jeff Tallman. Anyone who has previously been in one the many sessions, talks and workshops Jeff has presented over the years knows that this a session not to be missed!  It will be a fast-paced workshop and there's a lot to learn, but if you are an SRS admin, this is the workshop that will help you in so many, many ways down the road.  Don't miss it!

These workshops are an additional cost item to the conference itself. Registration is $500 for the workshops on Monday and Friday, and $200 for the first day of Yakov's Appeon workshop on the Tuesday.  Please note that the fees from these and all of the other workshops (less overhead) go to the speakers themselves for creating and presenting the content.

You can find more information about these and all the other workshops at isug.com/conference/content/workshops.
