Good news ahead for datacenters

In the face of a slowing market for PCs — the cloud datacentre market will experience another surge of growth by the end of 2013 according to reports by Rachel King on CBS Interactive.

King reports that chip giant Intel continues to predict “rebounds for both its PC and datacenter units” by  the end of 2013.

King quotes Intel chief financial officer Stacy Smith responding to analyst skepticism as why investors shouldn’t expect a repeat of last year’s second half.

“I think that as the OEMs start looking at new form factors that they can design around our new chips (Haswell in particular and maybe Baytrail) and Windows 8 enabling touch, the explosion and form factors and competitiveness of that platform is going to be substantially different at price points down into the [$300] or $400 range enabling touch. We didn’t have that last year. So you go into the prime selling season with new products, new technologies, new form factors, and new capabilities that up to now [had] unapproachable price points,” said Smith.

Intel says that its datacentre efficiency innovations integrate proven technologies, trusted tools for tracking metrics, and infrastructure and facility solutions that help firms optimize at every platform level.

“From processor and server to ambient temperature data center design, Intel innovations ensure efficient performance and reliability,” says the firm.
