By: Mr. Adrian Bridgwater on Oct 26, 2012

SAP’s HANA high-performance analytic appliance has produced third-quarter sales of US$107 for 2012, a healthy piece of news that comes alongside reports of a 16% growth in total revenue on the same quarter last year.

For SAP it seems, HANA is profitable, HANA is working and HANA is helping to lead the firm’s new streams of innovation.

The company actually describes its key innovation areas as encompassing not just HANA, but also mobile and cloud as areas of special focus. In this vein, mobile revenue in this quarter was US$62m and from this is confident of meeting full-year expectations of US$284m.

Cloud is no less healthy and is also reporting

“Our innovation strategy continues to deliver world-class value and market-leading performance. With SAP, businesses are innovating, achieving operational excellence and driving growth. We are proud of our relentless customer focus and confident that we’ll continue to outperform the competition,” said SAP co-CEOs Bill McDermott and Jim Hagemann Snabe.

A report on Computer Weekly references a Forrester paper entitled SAP Shows Progress On Its Cloud, Mobile, And In-Memory Innovation Agenda, where analysts Paul Hamerman and China Marten suggest that HANA is SAP's vehicle to “distance itself from Oracle”

“In-memory computing, which does not require a relational data store, is one more route to database independence,” says the above report.
